SPONSORSHIP OF SPOUSE, COMMON LAW PARTNER, CONJUGAL PARTNER AND/OR CHILD:

There are two scenarios for sponsoring your spouse or common law partner for permanent residency in Canada.

Under Family Class ( the sponsored person is OUTSIDE OF CANADA)

A sponsor should be either a PR or Citizen of Canada

•   A PR can sponsor only if he resides in Canada
•   A Citizen can apply from outside of Canada

Under the Spouse or Common-Law Partner IN CANADA CLASS if your spouse or common-law partner:

•   lives with you in Canada
•   has valid immigration status in Canada
•   would like to apply for, and qualifies for, an Open Work Permit so that they can work while the application is being processed

CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Sponsor should be:

•   A legally married spouse OR
•   Common law partner of 12 months or more OR
•   A conjugal partner (not able to cohabit together due to reason beyond their control and in a relationship for 12 months or more )
•   A parent of a dependent child

Basic Requirements:

•   No minimum income required
•   Cannot be claiming social welfare
•   Proof of taxes filed
•   Not under current police proceedings or court case or past violent crimes
•   Not under bankruptcy
